Families in Progress

Families are an integral part of First United Methodist Church. Families In Progress is dedicated to ministering to young families with or without children. We plan activities and projects that include our annual caroling mission to the retirement homes and to shut-ins, Valentines and pumpkins to be delivered to our shut-ins, an annual hayride coordinated with the youth group and many other social activities.

Beginning Wednesday, September 15 the church will begin a series of groups/classes for all ages. A light dinner will be served at 5 PM followed at 6PM by a seven week discussion called "Unbinding the Gospel", led by Pastor Rhein. There will be youth group meetings and classes for children beginning at 6. Come by and learn about unbinding the good news that God adores us and everyone else, that God has shown this to us through Jesus Christ.

This year we are undertaking a mission to assist the Heifer Project, along with the rest of the church. We have already had two lemonade stands and a strawberry shortcake sale. An update on the fundraising activities for the Heifer project. THE KIDS ARE ROCKIN'! We raised approximately $1400 with the Bike-a-Thon, over $380 selling corn (Thanks to the Beaupres fro donating the corn) and almost $600 with the car wash. Congrats and thanks to all involved and we hope the cars stayed shiny after the rain we had that night!

On Saturday, September 25 the church is sponsoring the Heifer Arts and Crafts Fair from 8 AM till 4 PM. The Families in Progress will be cooking lunch that day from 11 AM till 1 PM, consisiting of hamburgers, hot dogs and maybe brats. We're looking for volunteers to help cook and serve these DELICIOUS lunches!

On Sunday, October 17th from 5:30 till 8 PM we will have our annual hayride, sponsored by the Youth Group. Chris Eggelson will be there again-he was a BIG hit with the kids last year!!
On Saturday, October 23rd join us for a trip to Beggs Pumpkin Patch in Sikeston, MO. On our way home we'll stop at Lambert's for dinner-watch out for flying rolls!!
On Sunday, November 14th join us immediately after church for pizza and a skating party at the Skatium in Carbondale. That should be interesting!!!

All of these event timetables and sign up sheets will be posted on the UPDATED bulletin board by the Sunday School rooms. We invite you to join us for any or all of these activities.

We schedule educational and spiritual growth activities throughout the year. We hope that you will join us in making First United Methodist Church an inviting and exciting place for young families!

Watch the Asburian weekly for announcements of upcoming activities. And you can check the bulletin board upstairs across from the elevator by the children's Sunday school assembly room.

We would also like for you to join us in room 402 on Sunday mornings for our Homebuilders Sunday school class. As young families we are interested in issues that concern us-issues of faith, fellowship, values and relationships. Beginning September 19th we will start a new 6 week study called "Marriage Built to Last" by Chip Ingram. Grab a cup o' joe and come join us for what will  most likely be a spirited discussion on marriage.
